New Year’s Eve in the UK
If you fancy getting away this year for New Year’s Eve and are not sure where to go, we have selected three places in the UK that the S&G team have tried, tested and come well recommended!
Known for throwing a great party, the city of Dublin is a great place to visit for New Year’s Eve and as Dublin was voted one of Europe’s friendliest cities, you are bound to have a grand time! On the 31st December, the city has a procession of lights that weaves through the streets with lanterns and musicians for a magical experience. Make sure you head over to St Stephens Green for some spectacular fireworks to end your night with a bang!
St. Ives is fast becoming one of “THE” places to spend New Year’s Eve. Most of the residents and visitors take to the street in their best fancy dress to celebrate on the traffic free harbour front. As the bells ring in the New Year, a fantastic firework display takes over the sky.
For something a little different, why not head to Allendale village in Northumberland? Start with dinner and drinks in a cosy pub and then head out into the streets for the traditional ‘Tar Barls’ ceremony. The local men called ‘Guysers’ take to the street and parade in fancy dress with barrels of flaming tar around the village at midnight, before throwing them onto a bonfire to welcome in the New Year in style.
Whatever you end up doing this New Year’s Eve, we wish you a happy one and a great 2015!
