Beauty secrets in your kitchen cupboards – Dry skin and hair


This week we are looking into our kitchen cupboards (and fridges!) to uncover what #beautysecrets they could be hiding! If you have dry patchy skin and hair that looks like it has had one too many battles with the hairdryer then read on. For oily skin and hair types click here.

Dry hair mask

We have an egg’celent remedy for dry hair! Egg yolks are rich in fatty acids, proteins and vitamins A, D and E therefore this hair mask will help create shiny, longer and thicker hair. With only three ingredients, this has got to be worth a try!

- 2 egg yolks
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- ½ cup water

Mix together all ingredients and coat on to hair, leave for around 15 – 20 minutes and then rinse out mixture in tepid water to avoid scrambled eggs! Then wash hair as normal. As this remedy is so effective, you would not need to repeat more than 1 – 2 times a month.

Carrot and avocado face mask

Add humus and breadsticks to the ingredients and it starts to sound like a party shopping list! Party or no party, this carrot and avocado mask for dry skin promises to revitalise and tone skin and as it is high in anti-oxidants and potassium, this mask also helps prevent aging and puffiness.

- 1 carrot, peeled and de-stemmed
- ½ avocado
- 1 tbsp. honey
- ½ tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 egg yolk

Boil carrot until tender. Once cooled, blend with avocado (or mix by hand) to create a pulp. Mix in the remainder of the ingredients and spread over your face. Leave for around 15 minutes (sit back and relax, maybe with half an episode of sex and the city?) and wash off with a wash cloth.

Remember to moisturise afterwards for the full benefit.
